What is the ruling on hanging written verses in gatherings for decoration?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : His EminenceThe Shaykh : What is the ruling on hanging verses in gatherings?

The Shaykh : Why does he hang them in the gathering?

The questioner : For decoration.

The Shaykh : For decoration, so it means: he is playing with the Qur'an, treating it as mere decoration, meaning: as if it were ordinary engravings. For this reason, you find some verses written as if they were castles, as if they were minarets, and the like. This is forbidden, and there is no doubt about that.
But some people hang them seeking blessing from them. This is also not correct, because the Qur'an is not sought for blessing in this manner. For this reason, the predecessors did not precede us in this; the Salaf did not hang verses on their walls seeking blessing from them.
Some people hang them as protection and safety, like the daily recitation, for example, they hang the Verse of the Throne, because the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Whoever recites it in a night, a protector from Allah will remain over him, and no Shaytan will approach him until he becomes morning من قرأها في ليلة لم يزل عليه من الله حافظ ولا يقربه شيطان حتى يصبح
He says: I leave it here so that Satan does not approach. This is also an error, because the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) conditioned the ruling on what?
The student: Recitation.

The Shaykh : On recitation, not on hanging it.
Then, if a person hangs it and relies on it, he stops reciting the Verse of the Throne, and this is harm to him.
He hangs it for remembrance; some people remember by it. He says: I hang it so I remember by it. For this reason, he hangs, for example:
or backbite each other وَلا يَغْتَبْ بَعْضُكُمْ بَعْضاً
[Al-Hujurat 49:12]
so that it restrains him from backbiting. Is this correct? You find
or backbite each other وَلا يَغْتَبْ بَعْضُكُمْ بَعْضاً
[Al-Hujurat 49:12]
and under this written sign they backbite people. It does not restrain them, nor do they raise their heads to it. So this is a kind of mockery of the verses of Allah, that the speech of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) is above you saying:
or backbite each other وَلا يَغْتَبْ بَعْضُكُمْ بَعْضاً
[Al-Hujurat 49:12]
and you are dissecting people and eating their flesh.
So the important point: the least we can say about hanging them is that it is a religious innovation, which the Salaf did not do, or disliked, especially if they are hung in mosques in front of people, because some people get distracted, for example, while praying if they are in the qiblah direction. Perhaps he raises his gaze and then reads the verse while in the tashahhud, for example.
And praise be to Allah, the Qur'an is a written mushaf. Whoever wants to read, let him read from the mushaf, and whoever wants to be admonished, let the admonisher be in his heart. Yes.

The questioner : Your Eminence, the Shaykh.

The Shaykh : In order, my brother.

The questioner : We have reached.

The Shaykh : How?

The questioner : We have reached.

The Shaykh : How did you get here and pass all of this?!

The questioner : ...

The Shaykh : Good, if Allah wills.

The questioner : If you allow us two questions?

The Shaykh : No, I allow you one question.

The questioner : Since we came from very far.

The Shaykh : Yes, one question does not contradict; bring the most important one and give it to me, and if your turn comes again, give it to me.

The questioner : If Allah wills.

The Shaykh : Please proceed.
