Is it permissible to combine the 'Asr prayer with Jumu'ah, and what is the wisdom behind that?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Is it permissible to combine the 'Asr prayer with the Jumu'ah prayer, and what is the wisdom behind that?

The Shaykh : It is not permissible to combine 'Asr with Jumu'ah, because the Sunnah was only transmitted regarding combining Dhuhr with 'Asr. Jumu'ah is not called Dhuhr; Jumu'ah is an independent prayer with its own distinct identity. For this reason, it is not prayed except in a single mosque, it consists of two rak'ahs, the recitation is pronounced aloud in it, it is preceded by two khutbahs, and it is not valid except in its specific time. It has many distinctive characteristics, so it cannot be attached to Dhuhr, nor can 'Asr be combined with it by analogy.

The questioner : For the traveler?

The Shaykh : Is the traveler a traveler, or is he sick, for example, and he attended Jumu'ah? We say: Do not combine. Jumu'ah is an independent prayer with no counterpart among the five prayers, so 'Asr is not combined with it. Whoever combines 'Asr with it must repeat the prayer; he must repeat the 'Asr prayer.

The questioner : ...

The Shaykh : The adhan, the adhan now. And with this, this session ends. Until the next meeting, if Allah wills, and may Allah protect us and you from all evil and what is disliked.
