Ruling on Combining the 'Asr Prayer with the Friday Prayer

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Is it valid to combine the Friday prayer with the 'Asr prayer, whether in residence or while traveling?

First: In residence: This may occur. A person may be ill, attend the Friday prayer, and find it difficult to pray 'Asr at its time, so he combines them.
As for travel, this is also possible if the traveler passes through a town where the Friday prayer is held and prays Friday with them.
As for travel where the person is continuously on the move, there is no Friday prayer in that case; because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) traveled and did not hold the Friday prayer during his travels, even on the Day of 'Arafah when it coincided with a Friday, and yet he (peace and blessings be upon him) did not hold the Friday prayer.
However, it is not valid to combine the 'Asr prayer with the Friday prayer; because the Sunnah was only transmitted regarding combining 'Asr with Dhuhr, and the Friday prayer is not Dhuhr, as is clear; rather, it differs from Dhuhr in more than twenty (20) aspects. If that is the case, it is considered a separate, independent prayer, like the Fajr prayer, to which no other prayer is combined. Therefore, it is not permissible for a person to combine the 'Asr prayer with the Friday prayer, even if he is among those for whom combining is permitted. As for one for whom combining is not permitted, it is not permissible for him to combine with the Friday prayer or with Dhuhr.
