If making up the fasts of Ramadan takes up the entire month of Shawwal, should one follow it with fasting six days or not?

The questioner : May Allah forgive you: If making up the fasts of Ramadan takes up Shawwal, is it prescribed to follow it by fasting the six days?
The Shaykh : If we assume that a person had to fast the entire month of Ramadan, whether due to travel, illness, or post-natal bleeding, and he fasted in Shawwal until the whole month was spent making up the fasts, then he should fast the six days in Dhul-Qa'dah. This is because Ramadan is an obligatory fast that is made up after its time has passed, and the same applies to voluntary fasts. Also, fasting the six days of Shawwal is attached to Ramadan. However, if he was negligent in making up the fasts, and days passed during which he was able to make them up, but he did not make up what he owed from Ramadan until the end of Shawwal, and then he wanted to follow it with six days of Shawwal, this does not suffice him. This is because he performed the act of worship outside its proper time without an excuse.
