The Shaykh : We have reached the saying of Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He:
(38) And in Moses [was a sign], when We sent him to Pharaoh with clear authority. (39) But he turned away with his supporters and said," A magician or a madman."
[Adh-Dhariyat 51:38-39]
This means that in Moses there are signs among the signs of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, when Allah the Exalted sent him to Pharaoh. Pharaoh was a tyrant over everyone who ruled Egypt, and he was a disbeliever. Moses is the son of Imran, the most noble of the prophets of the Children of Israel, and he is in the third position of excellence among the five resolute prophets. The most excellent of them is Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), then Ibrahim, then Moses, then Nuh and Isa. Allah the Exalted sent him with a clear authority, meaning with a proof that is clear in itself and clarifies for others. The signs brought by the prophets are clear proofs for every person of justice and fairness, and they are also clear proofs of the truth of what the messengers brought. Therefore, know that whenever the word "clear" (mubin) appears in the Qur'an, it means clear in itself and clear for others, except where the context indicates that the intended meaning is clear in itself.
when We sent him to Pharaoh with clear authority.
[Adh-Dhariyat 51:38]
Among the great signs brought by Moses was the staff, the staff of Moses, which he used to lean on when needed, and to beat the leaves of trees with it when grazing his sheep, and he had other uses for it, as he (peace be upon him) said when Allah asked him:
(17) And what is that in your right hand, O Moses?" (18) He said, "It is my staff; I lean upon it, and I bring down leaves for my sheep and I have therein other uses." ما تلك بيمينك يا موسى قال هي عصاي أتوكأ عليها وأهش بها على غنمي ولي فيها مآرب أخرى
[Taha 20:17-18]
So it is a sign in that when he placed it on the ground, it became a clear serpent, meaning a great snake that frightens whoever sees it. For this reason, Moses (peace be upon him) was afraid of it when he threw it down and turned away fleeing, so Allah, Mighty and Majestic, called out to him: Do not be afraid. And among the signs is that he puts his hand in his armpit, and it comes out white immediately, white but without defect, meaning without blemish; it is not white due to leprosy, but white contrary to the color of his skin immediately, in reality, not in imagination. And Allah the Exalted said in Surat al-Isra:
And We had certainly given Moses nine evident signs
[Al-Isra 17:101]

The important point is that he came to Pharaoh with a clear authority and a compelling, sufficient proof, but he, refuge sought in Allah, turned away with his support, meaning his power, his authority, and his troops. He turned away from Moses out of arrogance, denial, injustice, and transgression. Allah the Exalted said:
And they rejected them, while their [inner] selves were convinced thereof, out of injustice
[An-Naml 27:14]
and a threat.
The student: Exaltation.

The Shaykh : Yes
The student: Exaltation.

The Shaykh :
Out of arrogance and tyranny
But he turned away with his supporters and said," A magician or a madman."
[Adh-Dhariyat 51:39]
This means that he accused Moses (peace be upon him) of being a sorcerer because he brought signs resembling what sorcerers do: a staff of wood placed on the ground becoming a clear serpent, and a hand put in the armpit coming out white immediately; this resembles sorcery.
Or a madman
This means he said he was insane, and that was because he claimed that Allah alone is the Creator of the heavens and the earth, the Lord, and the God, because they did not know a god except Pharaoh; they did not know a god except Pharaoh. So when a person comes saying that Allah is the Lord of the worlds, and that Pharaoh is not a god or a Lord, they accuse him of insanity. This is an insane person who has gone beyond what we know, beyond what we are accustomed to. Allah the Exalted said:
So We took him and his soldiers and threw them into the sea
[Al-Qasas 28:40]
meaning We cast them into it, and the Yam is the sea. The sea in which Pharaoh perished is the Red Sea between Asia and Africa. This is because Pharaoh gathered his troops and masses and wanted to destroy Moses and his people, so Moses and his people left Egypt heading east, but the sea stood between them and their destination. When they reached the sea, the sea was before them and Pharaoh and his people were behind them, so they said to Moses:
We are surely overtaking them إنا لمدركون
meaning We have perished, because Pharaoh is behind us and the sea is before us, so how can we be saved? He said:
No! Indeed, with me is my Lord; He will guide me." كلا إن معي ربي سيهدين
[Ash-Shu'ara 26:62]
This is a special presence that necessitates victory and support. And his saying "He will guide you" (sayahdin) and not "He will guide you" (sawfayahdin) indicates the nearness of this confinement and that it will be removed soon. And this is what happened. Sit down if you wish, if it is crowded. Yes, and this is what happened. Allah the Exalted inspired him to strike the sea with his staff, so he struck it, and it split into twelve paths immediately, and it dried up immediately, and it became suitable for walking on immediately, as He, Mighty and Majestic, said:
and strike for them a dry path through the sea; you will not fear being overtaken [by Pharaoh] nor be afraid [of drowning]." فاضرب لهم طريقا في البحر يبسا لا تخاف دركا ولا تخشى
[Taha 20:77]
So Moses and his people passed through these great paths, and the water between them was like mountains. When they finished coming out, Pharaoh was in their pursuit, and when they finished entering, Allah, Mighty and Majestic, by His power and authority, commanded the sea to return to what it was, so it closed over Pharaoh and his people, and they perished completely, and praise be to Allah. For this reason he said:
and cast them into the sea, and he was blameworthy.
[Adh-Dhariyat 51:40]
meaning Pharaoh, the doer of what is blamed. Undoubtedly, his rejection of the divine message and his claim that he is the Lord, and his saying "I know not for you a god other than me," and similar words, are undoubtedly words for which he is blamed, because the truth had become clear to him, but he was stubborn and refused to submit to the truth, as Moses said to him:
You have certainly known
meaning O Pharaoh,
none has sent down these [signs] except the Lord of the heavens and the earth as evidence, and indeed I think, O Pharaoh, that you are destroyed." ما أنزل هؤلاء إلا رب السماوات والأرض بصائر وإني لأظنك يا فرعون مثبورا
[Al-Isra 17:102]

Then He, the Exalted, said:
And in 'Aad [was a sign], when We sent against them the barren wind.
[Adh-Dhariyat 51:41]
meaning And in Aad there are signs.
when We sent against them the barren wind.
[Adh-Dhariyat 51:41]
Aad was in the south of the Arabian Peninsula, and they were a strong people, so much so that they said:
Who is greater than us in strength?
[Fussilat 41:15]
So Allah the Exalted said:
Did they not consider that Allah who created them was greater than them in strength? But they were rejecting Our signs.
[Fussilat 41:15]
So drought and barrenness struck them, and they began to await the rain. So Allah sent upon them the great, severe wind.
And when they saw it as a cloud approaching their valleys, they said, "This is a cloud bringing us rain!"
[Al-Ahqaf 46:24]
Allah the Exalted said:
Rather, it is that for which you were impatient: a wind, within it a painful punishment,
[Al-Ahqaf 46:24]
Allah sent upon them this barren wind that has no fruit and carries no water, like a barren woman who does not give birth. This is also a great wind that carries no clouds or rain. This barren wind is the western wind, as it came from the Prophet (peace be upon him):
I was supported by the morning wind
or
by the east wind and the 'Ad were destroyed by the west wind
Sahih Muslim 900a
I have been helped by the east wind and the 'Ad were destroyed by the west wind.
Sahih Muslim 900a
meaning by the western wind, Allah sent upon them this barren wind.
It left nothing of what it came upon but that it made it like disintegrated ruins.
[Adh-Dhariyat 51:42]
It passes over everything and makes it like crumbling, inert debris, until it takes a man, refuge sought in Allah, up and then returns him to the ground. So they became like the trunks of empty date palms, like the trunks of uprooted date palms. They perished completely.
So reflect on the verse: a people of stubborn, strong, hardy men perished by this gentle wind that has no visible body, and is only felt without seeing anything, and yet it destroyed them by the command of Allah, Mighty and Majestic. For this reason He, the Exalted, said:
It left nothing of what it came upon but that it made it like disintegrated ruins.
[Adh-Dhariyat 51:42]
So in this there is a sign among the signs of Allah, Mighty and Majestic. Open the device you have, open the device.
Allah sent upon them this wind and it destroyed them completely, so in them are signs.
It left nothing of what it came upon but that it made it like disintegrated ruins.
[Adh-Dhariyat 51:42]
Then He, the Exalted, said:
And in Thamud, when it was said to them, "Enjoy yourselves for a time."
[Adh-Dhariyat 51:43]
to the end of it. And we leave the discussion of this until Thursday, not next Thursday, because there is no meeting next Thursday, but the Thursday after that, if Allah wills. So let us now devote ourselves to the questions. We start from the right, and the question is only one question per person.
