After seeing the poor treatment from my elderly mother, does the Shari'ah exempt me from being responsible for her and from supporting her?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : After what I have seen from her over the past fourteen years, I do not want to be responsible for her. He says: Regarding the fact that I am the one who supports her religiously, is it possible for the Shari'ah to exempt me from this religious obligation?

The Shaykh : The Shari'ah does not exempt you from being dutiful to your mother; rather, you must be dutiful to your mother with everything you are able to do. Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) said:
Whether one or both of them reach old age [while] with you, say not to them [so much as], "uff," and do not repel them but speak to them a noble word. (24) And lower to them the wing of humility out of mercy and say, "My Lord, have mercy upon them as they brought me up [when I was] small."
[Al-Isra 17:23-24]
And remember that if your life is long, you will be in the same state as she was, with poor behavior and short-sightedness. Perhaps Allah will punish you in this world before the Hereafter by causing you to have children who are not dutiful to you.
