Is it permissible to sit in a gathering of women whose conversation consists mainly of backbiting and talebearing?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Is it permissible to sit in a gathering with women whose conversation consists mainly of backbiting and talebearing?

The Shaykh : It is not permissible for a person to sit in a gathering where there is backbiting and talebearing, unless he intends to prevent them from it and is able to do so. In that case, he attends and forbids them from this evil, perhaps Allah will guide them through him.
As for if he is unable to change the evil, it is not lawful for him to sit with them, due to the saying of Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He):
And it has already come down to you in the Book that when you hear the verses of Allah [recited], they are denied [by them] and ridiculed; so do not sit with them until they enter into another conversation. Indeed, you would then be like them
[An-Nisa 4:140]
.

The questioner : May Allah bless you.
