What is the difference between the permissible and the lawful?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : What is the difference between this matter being permissible and this matter being lawful, the permissible and the lawful?

The Shaykh : There is no difference between them; the lawful is the permissible, and the permissible is the lawful. However, the term "permissible" is sometimes used to refer to what is the opposite of the impossible and the necessary in terms of existence. They say: Things, in terms of existence, are divided into three categories:
the impossible in existence, the necessary in existence, and the permissible in existence. As for the Shari'ah, there is no difference between the permissible and the lawful.

The questioner : May Allah bless you.
