The reciter: And 'Ubayd Allah ibn 'Umar al-Qawariri narrated to me, saying: Yahya ibn Sa'id narrated to us from 'Abd al-Malik ibn Abi Sulayman, saying: Sa'id ibn Jubayr narrated to us from Ibn 'Umar, saying: كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلّم يصلي وهو مقبل من مكة إلى المدينة على راحلته حيث كان وجهه قال: وفيه نزلت فَأَينَما تُوَلّوا فَثَمَّ وَجهُ اللَّهِ The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to pray while traveling from Makkah to al-Madinah on his mount, facing whichever direction he was facing. He said: It was in this context that the verse was revealed: "So wherever you turn, there is the Face of Allah.".
