Explanation of the Book of Hajj-10b

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Abu Nu'aym narrated to us, and Aflah ibn Humayd narrated to us from al-Qasim ibn Muhammad from Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), who said:
We got down at Al-Muzdalifa and Sauda asked the permission of the Prophet (ﷺ) to leave (early) before the rush of the people. She was a slow woman and he gave her permission, so she departed (from Al- Muzdalifa) before the rush of the people. We kept on staying at Al-Muzdalifa till dawn, and set out with the Prophet (ﷺ) but (I suffered so much that) I wished I had taken the permission of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as Sauda had done, and that would have been dearer to me than any other happiness.
Sahih al-Bukhari 1681

The Shaykh : (may Allah be pleased with her) wished that she had sought permission like Sawdah, and she said: "I would have preferred it over being granted a wish", meaning over something that would make her happy. This was either because she (may Allah be pleased with her) was heavy-bodied, or because the people were numerous and the crowding was difficult for her. If someone says that this indicates that staying until Fajr is obligatory, the answer is that there is no evidence for this in the text, because the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) did not like to leave behind anything on which they had parted from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), even if it was not obligatory. Here is Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding fasting: when he informed the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: "I will stand in prayer at night as long as I live, and I will fast during the day as long as I live", he called him and explained to him that the best is to fast one day and break the fast the next. This is not obligatory. When he grew old, it became difficult for him to fast one day and break the fast the next, so he began to fast fifteen days and break the fast for fifteen days, and he said: "I will not leave behind anything on which I parted from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)." Otherwise, the previous hadiths are clear that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) permitted women to depart before Fajr. Yes.
