Explanation of the Book of Hajj-09b

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Ibrahim ibn al-Mundhir narrated to us, saying: Ibn Wahb narrated to us, saying: Yunus informed me from Ibn Shihab, saying: Ubayd Allah ibn Abdullah ibn Umar informed me from his father, saying:
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said two rak'ahs at Mina, and Abu Bakr after him, and 'Umar after Abu Bakr, and 'Uthman at the beginning of his caliphate صلى رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم بمنى ركعتين و أبو بكر وعمر وعثمان صدراً من خلافته
Sahih Muslim 694c

The Shaykh : This chapter is regarding the phrase:
At Mina بمنى
, which means "in." It is well known that prepositions have multiple meanings, sometimes meaning such-and-such, and sometimes meaning such-and-such. Allah the Exalted said:
(137) And indeed, you pass by them in the morning (138) And at night. Then will you not use reason? وإنكم لتمرون عليهم مصبحين وبالليل
[As-Saffat 37:137-138]
, meaning "and in the night." Similarly, "in" can mean "by," as in the saying of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him):
A woman was tortured and was put in Hell because of a cat which she had kept locked عذبت امرأة في هرة حبستها
Sahih al-Bukhari 2365
, meaning "because of" or "on account of." Yes.
