Is the obligation to stay overnight in Muzdalifah, or is there leeway in the command?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Is the obligation... or is there leeway in the command?

The Shaykh : Note that staying overnight in Muzdalifah is much more emphasized than staying overnight in Mina, even though the jurists equate the two, but that is an error. This is because some scholars say that standing in Muzdalifah is a pillar, like standing at 'Arafah, because Allah the Exalted commanded the remembrance of Allah at al-Mash'ar al-Haram, and because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Whoever catches our prayer and stands with us until we depart, and had stood at 'Arafah before that, whether at night or during the day, has completed his Hajj and fulfilled his obligations. This is the confirmed view. The minimum we see is that after midnight, it is permissible to depart at these times. But in the times of leeway, we say: wait until Fajr. Some scholars (may Allah have mercy on them) say that the remembrance of Allah at al-Mash'ar al-Haram is achieved by praying Maghrib and 'Isha'. And if a person prays Maghrib and 'Isha in Muzdalifah, he may depart. But these are weak opinions.
