Staying overnight at Muzdalifah

Fatwa number ( 14875 )
Q: In the month of Dhu al-Hijjah 1400 AH, I performed the obligatory Hajj for the first time in my life with a colleague who is a doctor and had performed Hajj before. I knew nothing about the rituals of Hajj, and this doctor came with me to teach me the rituals. The doctor’s elderly, ill mother was with him, along with his brother, another elderly woman, and about four or five other people. We arrived at Muzdalifah shortly after the 'Isha' adhan. We prayed Maghrib and 'Isha' at Muzdalifah . When we tried to spend part of the night at Muzdalifah , the Saudi driver refused and insisted on taking us directly to Mina . Given his insistence, we were forced to comply. We arrived at Mina in the beginning of the second quarter of the night, and our vehicle was probably the first to enter Mina . Question: I knew nothing about the rituals of Hajj, and I did not know whether staying overnight at Muzdalifah was required or not. My colleague the doctor and his brother were the ones directing us to the rituals. Question: Is this permissible in the Shari'ah for a questioner who knows nothing about the rituals of Hajj? If there is any fault in this, what is the expiation? Please note that this was my first time performing Hajj. What is the ruling regarding my colleague the doctor, his brother, and the others who were with us? Please inform us; may Allah reward you.
A : It is obligatory for you to pay an expiation for leaving the overnight stay at Muzdalifah . You must slaughter it in Makkah and distribute it to the poor of the Haram . The obligatory amount is a one-year-old sheep, a two-year-old goat, a seventh of a camel, or a seventh of a cow, similar to the 'Id sacrifice. If you cannot do so, you must fast for ten days. The same applies to anyone like you who was with you. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
