Explanation of the Book of Foods-03b

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Abdullah ibn Muhammad narrated to us, Wahb ibn Jarir narrated to us, Shu'bah narrated to us from Isma'il from Qays from Sa'd, who said:
I was one of (the first) seven (who had embraced Islam) with Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and we had nothing to eat then, except the leaves of the Habala or Hubula tree, so that our stool used to be similar to that of sheep. Now the tribe of Bani Asad wants to teach me Islam; I would be a loser and all my efforts would be in vain (if I learn Islam anew from them).
Sahih al-Bukhari 5412

The Shaykh : His statement "the seventh of seven" means how many were before him? Six. But if it were said "the seventh of six," that would be if the seventh was of a different kind. If the seventh is of a different kind, it is said "the seventh of six." And for this reason he said:
There is in no private conversation three but that He is the fourth of them ما يكون من نجوى ثلاثة إلا هو رابعهم
[Al-Mujadila 58:7]
meaning the fourth of what? The three.
nor are there five but that He is the sixth of them ولا خمسة إلا هو سادسهم
[Al-Mujadila 58:7]
That is, the sixth of the five if they are of the same kind.
They have certainly disbelieved who say, "Allah is the third of three." لقد كفر الذين قالوا إن الله ثالث ثلاثة
[Al-Ma'idah 5:73]
And he did not say "three of two" because they consider the kind to be one, all of them being gods. So the important point is that the scholars say that the number, when added to what is below it or beneath it, is of a different kind, and if added to its equal, it is of the same kind. Yes, that is correct.
