The reciter: And Abu Kamil narrated to me, and Hammad narrated to us. And Ya'qub ibn Ibrahim narrated to me, and Isma'il narrated to us, all of them from Ayyub. And Ibn al-Muthanna narrated to us, and Yahya ibn Sa'id narrated to us from 'Ubayd Allah. And Ibn al-Muthanna narrated to us, and Ibn Abi 'Ubayd narrated to us from Ibn 'Awn. And Muhammad ibn Rafi' narrated to me, and 'Abd al-Razzaq narrated to us, and Ibn Jurayj informed us, all of them from Nafi' with this chain of narration, similar to the hadith of al-Layth ibn Sa'd, except that in the hadith of Ibn Jurayj, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: .
The Shaykh : It remains to be said: If he stands, does he keep looking at it, or does he look ahead of him, or does he look at the ground, or does he look at the sky, or does he stand while talking to his companion and turning toward him, or what? It may be said that his statement, "let him stand until it passes him by," or "until it is placed before it passes him by," indicates that he looks at it and follows it with his gaze, and this is closer to humility and awareness of death.
When any one of you sees a funeral procession, let him stand when he sees it until it passes him by, if he is not following it.
