Benefits of the Hadith: (Travel is a piece of torment...)
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : This hadith contains the benefit that a person should, once he has satisfied his desire for the purpose of his journey—meaning, once he has completed the business for which he traveled—hasten to return to his family and not delay. This is because many benefits may be lost due to his absence from his family, and because his continued stay causes him to miss the specific tasks he used to perform at his place of residence. This is among the etiquettes that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) taught his community: when a person travels to a place out of necessity, he should return to his family as soon as his need is fulfilled, so that he can be with them, attend to their affairs, and care for them as Allah (Mighty and Majestic) has commanded. It may also be taken from this as an indication to preserve time and value it, and not to waste it except for a benefit. For if a person is traveling and his need has ended, he remains idle; so let him return so that he can benefit from his time and also benefit his family. It also indicates that whenever you finish any task, you should not remain in it. Once you are done, move on. For example, if you are invited to a wedding feast and you have finished eating, and only idle talk remains to fill the space, it is better for you to leave and stand up, because your staying in that state is a waste of time with no benefit.
