Explanation of the Book of Foods-05a

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Abu 'Aasim narrated from Thawr ibn Yazid from Khalid ibn Ma'dan from Abu Umamah that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
When he finished his food, and he said once, when he removed his table, he would say: "Praise be to Allah who has sufficed us and given us to drink, not being sufficed by anyone nor having anyone to suffice us." And he said once: "Praise be to You, our Lord, not being sufficed by anyone, not having anyone to entrust our blessings to, and not having anyone to rely upon other than our Lord."

The Shaykh : This is also something that a person should say when he finishes his food. If he limits himself to saying "Praise be to Allah," that is sufficient, but it is better to say what the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Praise be to Allah, much, good, and blessed, in which there is no sufficiency from anyone, no entrusting of blessings to anyone, and no reliance upon anyone other than our Lord." This means that we do not find sufficiency in anyone other than You, we do not entrust Your blessings to anyone, and we do not rely on Your grace from anyone else; we do not find sufficiency in anyone other than You, we do not rely on Your grace, and we do not entrust Your blessings to anyone. Likewise, the second phrase: "Praise be to Allah who has sufficed us and given us to drink, not being sufficed by anyone nor having anyone to suffice us." And in the third wording, he also said: "Praise be to Allah, our Lord, not being sufficed by anyone, not having anyone to entrust our blessings to, and not having anyone to rely upon other than our Lord." If a person memorizes this dhikr, let him say it. If he does not memorize it, it is sufficient for him to say "Praise be to Allah," based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
Allah is pleased with His slave who says: 'Al-hamdu lillah (praise be to Allah)' when he takes a morsel of food and drinks a draught of water. إن الله ليرضى عن العبد يأكل الأكلة فيحمده عليها ويشرب الشربة فيحمده عليها
