Benefits of the Chapter: What Has Been Transmitted Regarding Hunting
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : This and the preceding hadith provide evidence for the permissibility of hunting, and that a person is allowed to seek game, meaning not for play, but to eat it or sell it. As for hunting for play, it is prohibited, and a person may be punished for it, especially if it entails ruining people’s crops, entering their gardens, or the like. This also provides evidence for the permissibility of the hare, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) approved of them doing so and ate what was presented to him from it as a gift. In the hadith of Abu Qatadah mentioned earlier, it is stated that if a person kills game while it is lawful, it is permissible for those in the state of ihram to eat from it, provided that he did not hunt it for them; if he did hunt it for them, it is not permissible for them to eat it. This is evidenced by the hadith of al-Sa'b ibn Jathamah (may Allah be pleased with him), who hunted a wild ass for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), but he did not accept it and said: Sahih Muslim 1193a, Yes.
