The reciter: Al-Minhāl narrated from Sa‘īd from Ibn ‘Umar
The Shaykh : His statement: “He cursed the one who mutilates animals” means, for example, cutting off a part of its limbs, whether its ear, its nose, its leg, its hand, or something similar, or its tail. However, there is no harm in mutilating it occasionally for a stronger benefit, such as marking camels by branding them for the sacrificial animals, or branding camels so that they are not lost. Similarly, plucking the feathers of pigeons so that they grow in that place or are raised in that place is permissible, because although it involves some pain, it is for a benefit.
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) cursed the one who mutilates animals. And ‘Adī narrated from Sa‘īd from Ibn ‘Abbās from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
