Explanation of the Book of the Hearts-01a

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Al-Makki ibn Ibrahim said: Abdullah ibn Sa'id, and he is Ibn Abi Hind, narrated to us from his father from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), who said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Two favors that many of the people squander are health and free time. نعمتان مغبون فيهما كثير من الناس ، الصحة والفراغ
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2304Sahih (Darussalam)
.
And Abbas al-Anbari said: Safwan ibn Isa narrated to us from Abdullah ibn Sa'id ibn Abi Hind from his father, saying: I heard Ibn Abbas from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) the same.

The Shaykh : Allah is the Greatest, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) spoke the truth. Indeed, many people are defrauded in these two blessings: health and leisure. For many people waste them; long days pass by them while they are in good health and have leisure, and it is wasted upon them. This is a loss without doubt, and one does not know this loss except when he falls ill. He says, "Why did I not do such and such? How did the days pass during my health?" And the loss becomes clear to him. Likewise, leisure: when he has no work, his provision comes to his doorstep without his needing to seek it. Then, suddenly, he becomes occupied seeking provision or with other things. At that time, he remembers that he was defrauded in the past because he did not work during that time of leisure. For this reason, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
that many of the people squander مغبون فيهما كثير من الناس
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2304Sahih (Darussalam)
. The hadith indicates that some people are not defrauded in them. Who are they? They are the people of prudence and determination who assess matters and understand them, and they know that time is faster than they imagine. How many a person delays the term of his life, only for it to arrive. And how many a person delays the removal of a blessing, only for it to be removed. He is in good health and says, "When will I be an old man unable to work?" Only to be struck by a calamity that prevents him from working. And so on. Therefore, one should not feel safe from the worldly life; one should not feel safe from the worldly life. For that reason, it is obligatory for a person to be prudent, as the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
but take something when in health to serve you in time of illness and something in your life to serve you in your death خذ من صحتك لمرضك ومن حياتك لموتك
