Some scholars said: He is held hostage such that he cannot intercede for his parents on the Day of Resurrection. However, Ibn al-Qayyim weakened this opinion and said: “held hostage” means he will be detained and restricted, and he may miss out on many benefits, because the one who is held hostage is the one who is detained, just as if you pledged a car to a creditor, for example, its benefit is detained from you.
