Some students, when the time for 'Asr enters, go to the mosques and leave the classrooms, knowing that the prayer is held at the school after the classes end. What is the ruling on their action?

The questioner : May Allah forgive you.
We study in a school, and the time for prayer is set for 3:25, at which time the 'Asr prayer is held, because we do not leave the classrooms until 3:25.

The Shaykh : And where are you?

The questioner : In Riyadh.

The Shaykh : The time enters at 3:25? The time enters?

The questioner : You do not leave the classrooms until 3:25; the time enters at 3:00.

The Shaykh : No, it does not become 3:00 in Riyadh.

The questioner : In the winter...

The Shaykh : The important thing is that you pray after the time has entered.

The questioner : After the time enters at 3:25, the time is... we all leave the classrooms, about four hundred students. Some students leave the classrooms, ask permission from the teacher, and leave the classroom to perform it in congregation at a time other than the time set by the center for students to leave. Is their action permissible, that they leave and pray without asking permission from the teacher?

The Shaykh : In the mosques?

The questioner : They do not ask permission from the teacher.

The Shaykh : They pray in the mosques, meaning?

The questioner : In the mosque of the center. They leave in groups, in a mosque where there are about six or seven congregations, one after another, and the official congregation has not yet left.

The Shaykh : This, may Allah reward you, requires a response that necessitates a letter from the director of the center so that we can explain it to him.

The questioner : O Shaykh, the director of the center is a disbeliever.

The Shaykh : A disbeliever.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : This is not possible, because no one will answer, even if I said: "This is forbidden, for example," and that delaying the prayer for the sake of a large congregation and agreement is better. I mean: these people want to hasten in the first part of the time, which is fine, but if there is a delay until the last part of the time, first: it avoids being an outlier. Second: it increases the gathering, so it is better.

The questioner : Their leaving is not to preserve the time; it is for other reasons.

The Shaykh : The time does not end with this; the time for 'Asr lasts until there is half an hour left until sunset, perhaps.

The questioner : I mean they let them out of the classrooms on the basis that they leave the center directly.

The Shaykh : I do not see them leaving the classrooms; I see that they should stay and pray with their brothers, avoid being outliers, and complete the obligatory class. This class is obligatory for them.
