What is your opinion regarding what some of the common people say, "Since so-and-so came, the rain came"? Is this among the phrases of shirk (associating partners with Allah)?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : All right, O Shaykh, is there a phrase of shirk (associating partners with Allah) that is widespread, for example, when someone says, "Since the day so-and-so came, the rain has come"? Is this considered major shirk or minor shirk?

The Shaykh : Yes, he says: Some people, when it rains and the rain coincides with the arrival of another person, say, "When he came to us, the rain came." They make the man's arrival the cause of the rain. This is a lie. How does he know that Allah sent down the rain for his sake? So he has spoken about Allah without knowledge. In this is a type of shirk (associating partners with Allah) because he attributed the thing to an unknown cause. He must repent to Allah and not return to it.

The questioner : All right, O Shaykh, is it major shirk or minor shirk?

The Shaykh : No, it is not major shirk. It is not major because he did not say, "This man is the one who brought the rain."
