The questioner : Is it permissible to attend the Friday prayer when there are only five minutes left before the iqamah?
The Shaykh : Yes, it is permissible to attend, even if the prayer has already begun. But Allah said:[Al-Jumu'ah 62:9] Therefore, a person must, when he hears the call to Friday prayer—which is the call made when the imam arrives—hasten to it so that he can catch listening to the sermon and the prayer in full, and catch the prayer in full.
As for before the second call is made, attendance is not obligatory. The scholars said: except for one whose home is far away such that he cannot reach the mosque until after the second call; in that case, he must hasten to the Friday prayer so that he reaches the mosque at the time of the second call.
The questioner : May Allah bless you.
The Shaykh : Yes, it is permissible to attend, even if the prayer has already begun. But Allah said:
O you who have believed, when [the adhan] is called for the prayer on the day of Jumu'ah [Friday], then proceed to the remembrance of Allah and leave trade
