If a person takes a bath for cooling purposes, is it sufficient in place of wudu, or is intention required?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : May Allah reward you, O Shaykh. If a person takes a bath for cooling purposes, is it sufficient in place of wudu?
And if it is not sufficient, what is the bath that is sufficient in place of wudu?
And is intention required in it?

The Shaykh : Cooling is not an act of worship and not an act of obedience. So if one takes a bath for cooling, it is not sufficient in place of wudu. What is sufficient in place of wudu is the bath from major ritual impurity, or the bath of a woman from menstruation or post-natal bleeding, because it is for a state of ritual impurity. As for the recommended bath, such as the bath when entering the state of ihram, for example, it is not sufficient in place of wudu. Likewise, the obligatory bath for other than a state of ritual impurity, such as the bath on Friday, is not sufficient in place of wudu. It is not sufficient in place of wudu except the bath that is for a state of ritual impurity: major ritual impurity, or menstruation, or post-natal bleeding.

The questioner : Even if he intended it?

The Shaykh : Yes?

The questioner : Even if he intended it?

The Shaykh : Even if he intended it, because the order is required.

The questioner : Okay, and is intention required in the bath for a state of ritual impurity?

The Shaykh : Huh?

The questioner : The bath, if he takes a bath!

The Shaykh : If he intends the bath for major ritual impurity, it is sufficient in place of wudu, by the saying of Allah the Exalted:
And if you are in a state of janabah, then purify yourselves وإن كنتم جنبا فاطّهروا
[Al-Ma'idah 5:6]
and wudu was not mentioned.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good.

The Shaykh : Yes.
