Does the one who joins the prayer late count the extra rak'ah the imam added by mistake?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Yes?

The questioner : If a person prays Maghrib with the imam and is behind by one rak'ah, and then his imam forgets and stands up to perform a fourth rak'ah, then prostrates for forgetfulness and concludes the prayer, is this extra rak'ah that the imam added considered as completing his prayer, or does he have to stand up and perform a third rak'ah?

The Shaykh : Yes, this example is considered an example, but we take a rule: if the imam adds a rak'ah and someone has joined him in the second rak'ah of any prayer, does the follower count this extra rak'ah?
The answer: Some scholars hold that he does not count it, and that if the imam concludes the prayer and the follower has missed a rak'ah, he must stand up and perform a rak'ah. However, this opinion is weak. The correct view is that the follower who has missed part of the prayer counts the imam's extra rak'ah. For example, if he joined the imam in the second rak'ah of the Maghrib prayer, as the brother mentioned, and then the imam added a rak'ah by mistake, how many rak'ahs has this follower, who was behind by one rak'ah, performed?

The questioner : Three.

The Shaykh : Three rak'ahs. So his prayer is complete, and he must conclude it. If he adds a rak'ah, that means he intentionally added to it and prayed Maghrib as four rak'ahs, which is not permissible. Although the imam is excused for the addition due to his forgetfulness, you are not excused, so it is not permissible for you to perform more than the obligatory number of rak'ahs in your prayer.
If someone were to say: Did not the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say:
If you hear the Iqamah, you must walk to the prayer (place) with tranquility and dignity, and do not hasten; and whatever portion of the prayer you get (along with the Imam) offer it, and complete afterwards whatever you missed. إذا سمعتم الإقامة فامشوا إلى الصّلاة وعليكم السّكينة والوقار ولا تسرعوا فما أدركتم فصلّوا وما فاتكم فأتمّوا -أو قال- فاقضوا
