What is the best method for memorizing the interpretation of the Qur'an?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : May Allah preserve you, O Shaykh, regarding the interpretation of the Qur'an.

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : Often one reads the interpretation of the Qur'an and then forgets it.

The Shaykh : Huh?

The questioner : I say one forgets it.

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : So what is the easiest way to consolidate the understanding of the interpretation?

The Shaykh : The easiest, may Allah bless you, is to review it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded the review of the Qur'an and said:
Read the Qur'an regularly. By the One in Whose Hand Muhammad's soul is, it escapes from memory faster than a camel does from its tying ropes. تعاهدوا هذا القرآن فوالذي نفسي بيده فهو أشدّ تفلّتا من الإبل في عقلها
Riyad as-Salihin 1002
So the best thing is to review it. Some surahs are sufficient to review once a week, some require twice, and some are sufficient to review once every fifteen days. Yes, that is right.

The questioner : The interpretation!

The Shaykh : Huh?

The questioner : I mean regarding the interpretation?

The Shaykh : The interpretation or the memorization?

The questioner : The interpretation.

The Shaykh : If you forget the interpretation, review it.

The questioner : Is it better to read the interpretation based on what is narrated from the Salaf, or the linguistic interpretations?

The Shaykh : The interpretation of the Salaf is better, because they are the most knowledgeable people regarding the meaning of the Qur'an.
