What was reported from him (peace and blessings be upon him) that he rebuked 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) when he saw a page of the Torah in his hand: does this contradict his saying (peace and blessings be upon him)

The questioner : Your Eminence, the Shaykh, two contradictory hadiths have been reported, and they are:

The Shaykh : Do not say: contradictory, that is a mistake.

The questioner : In my understanding.

The Shaykh : Say: their apparent meaning is contradictory, even in your understanding. Say their apparent meaning is contradictory, as the scholars said.

The questioner : It is that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)

The Shaykh : Repeat the question.

The questioner : Two contradictory hadiths have been reported.

The Shaykh : Now you have mispronounced and erred in the meaning. Two hadiths have been reported whose apparent meaning is contradictory.

The questioner : Two hadiths have been reported whose apparent meaning is contradictory, and that is that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) became angry and rebuked 'Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) when he saw him carrying a page of the Torah in his hand, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
relate traditions from the children of Isra'il; there is no harm. حدّثوا عن بني إسرائيل ولا حرج
Sunan Abi Dawud 3662Sahih (Al-Albani)
.

The Shaykh : Yes, first: the hadith of 'Umar was weakened by many scholars when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw a copy or page of the Torah with 'Umar, so he said:
Ibn Khattab, do you doubt أفي شكّ أنت يا ابن الخطّاب
Sahih Muslim 1479e, 1475b
This was weakened by many scholars. If it is weak, then it does not stand against the authentic, and it is not said that their apparent meaning is contradictory, because it has fallen from its foundation.
And according to the view that it is authentic, the answer is that the meaning of "Narrate from the Children of Israel" is: if one of the Children of Israel narrates to you, then narrate from him. But as for taking the Torah as evidence and guidance by which you are guided, that is forbidden. Yes.
