Exegesis of the first verse of Surat al-Hadid.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Yes...

The questioner : Your Eminence, we testify to Allah, Mighty and Majestic, regarding our love for you for the sake of Allah. This is the second point.

The Shaykh : May Allah love you as you have loved us, and make us all among the beloved of Allah. Yes.

The questioner : Noble Shaykh, what is your advice for a new student of knowledge in his pursuit of knowledge?

The Shaykh : My advice, may Allah bless you,
First, is the sincerity of intention for Allah, Mighty and Majestic. This is the most important thing: that he does not seek in his pursuit of knowledge anything other than removing ignorance from himself and from others, and preserving the Shari'ah and defending it. He does not seek fame, nor status, nor a salary.
Second, that he acts upon what he has learned, even if he has only learned one issue in a day, he acts upon it consistently until he benefits. As for accumulating knowledge without action, becoming like a copy of a book, that is what most people are granted success in.
Third: that he takes a Shaykh in whom he trusts regarding his knowledge and his trustworthiness. Both conditions are necessary: his knowledge and his trustworthiness. Because one in whose knowledge you do not trust may speak out of ignorance, and one in whose trustworthiness you do not trust may speak of religious innovations and misguidance, intending thereby to mislead people, may Allah protect us from that. Then he chooses the sciences from the least to the least, meaning if he wants to read jurisprudence, he looks at the concise books in jurisprudence and progresses step by step. Because if a person wants to climb to the roof, how many steps does he take in his first step? Yes, the first is one, then the second, the third, until he reaches the roof. And this is with the success of Allah for the servant. Yes, perhaps you are curing your heedlessness.
