The reciter: Abdullah ibn Yusuf narrated to us, Malik informed us, from Ibn Shihab, from Abu Daris al-Khawlani, from Abu Thalhah (may Allah be pleased with him): Yunus, Ma'mar, Ibn 'Uyaynah, and al-Majishun followed him from al-Zuhri.
The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. This is among the forbidden things: every fanged predator. He did not say "every fanged animal" only, nor did he say "every predator." He said:Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1477Sahih (Darussalam) and two descriptions.
The scholars said: The first description excludes what has fangs but is not a predator, such as the camel, which has fangs, for example, and it is not forbidden. The second description excludes the hyena, for although the hyena has fangs, it is not a predator. This is because the hyena does not eat humans and does not hunt except when someone attacks it or its situation becomes tight and it is compelled; then it may hunt. But the wolf, the leopard, the lion, and the like of them hunt in all circumstances. The wisdom behind the prohibition of fanged predators is that if a person eats from them and nourishes himself with them, he may acquire from their nature, which is aggression. For this reason, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade every fanged predator.
That the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade eating from any fanged predator
