Continuation of the benefits of the hadith: (… from Sahl ibn Sa'd, who said: A woman came with a Burdah. Sahl said: Do you know what a Burdah is? He said:

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : In it is evidence of the good character of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and that is by giving this supplicant this Burdah which he (peace and blessings be upon him) was wearing immediately.
In it is evidence of the permissibility of blaming a person if he does what he should not do, because the Companions blamed this man for asking the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) for this Burdah, knowing that he (peace and blessings be upon him) does not turn away a supplicant.
In it is evidence of the permissibility of preparing a shroud. Pay attention to this benefit; is it taken from the hadith? Yes?

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : It appears that it is not taken from it, because he only asked for it in order to seek blessing through the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), because the Messenger came out and it was his izar, having been wrapped around his body, so this man wanted to seek blessing with it. For this reason, it was not the custom of the Salaf to prepare shrouds. So what some people do today of preparing a shroud, or digging a grave before one dies, this is not from the Sunnah. Rather, some scholars said, and this is the truth and it is correct, that it is not permissible for a person to dig in the public land before the need for it, before the need for digging, and that this is like making a place of prostration in the mosques, because this land is a waqf, a public cemetery for the Muslims. Who is the most deserving of it? The dead person. Whoever dies first is the most deserving of his place in it. As for digging a grave for yourself, you may die in this land, you may die elsewhere, you may die after a year or two years or after twenty years, or the cemetery may fill up before you die, so this is not permissible. Yes?

The questioner : … the sea … .

The Shaykh : Yes, I say: We mentioned that one may die in a place other than this, so this is not permissible. But some people take it as a lesson, and we look into its matter. He goes to the cemeteries and lies down in the grave, saying: I do this by way of a lesson, I admonish myself. So what is the opinion on this?

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : Yes?

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : Yes, the opinion on this is that it is not sound, this is not sound. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not say: Lie down in the graves, for they remind one of the Hereafter. Rather, he said:
Visit the graves زوروا القبور
So visiting the graves brings about admonition and remembrance of the Hereafter in a way that this does not. So this should not be done, it should not be done. And the person who is not admonished except when he lies down in the grave, it means that his heart is harder than stone. Yes.
Good, and in it is also, in this is evidence of what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was upon of a hard life and lack of wealth, and so it was. And it has passed us in the past that two or three months would pass without a fire being lit in his house, and that a guest would come to him and he would find nothing in his houses to offer the guest. May Allah send blessings and peace upon him. Yes?
