Benefits of the Hadith: (… I heard al-Bara’ (may Allah be pleased with him) say

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : His statement: "of medium build" means he was neither tall nor short, but he leaned more toward being tall than short, (peace and blessings be upon him).
"in a garment" A garment (hullah) is a robe or a cloak made of two pieces of cloth, such as an izar (lower garment) and a rida’ (upper garment).
And his statement: "red" this is the point of evidence, and it appears that al-Bukhari (may Allah have mercy on him) used this hadith as evidence for the permissibility of wearing red.
The scholars (may Allah have mercy on them) differed on this issue with several opinions. Some hold that it is not permissible to wear red because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prohibited Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-As from doing so.
Some hold that it is permissible in all cases, and these are two opposing views.
Some hold that it is permissible inside the house and prohibited outside the house.
Some hold that it is permissible if the redness is slight, meaning it leans toward yellow, like saffron-colored, and they hold that it is prohibited if the redness is intense.
Some hold that it is permissible if the item has a color mixed with the red, but the red is the dominant color. This is called red and is permissible due to the other color mixed with it, so the prohibition applies to pure red.
And according to the opinion of some scholars—and I have not seen this as a stated view—they hold that this is specific to the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), that it is permissible for him to wear red and not for others.
But the most correct view is what Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) held, which is that the red that is prohibited, if it is pure, is prohibited; if it has another color mixed with it, it is permissible. Accordingly, the red garment here is to be understood as such. He said: Because the garments that come from Yemen are marked with colors; if the marks are green, it is called green, and if they are red, it is called red. This view is the stronger one, and pure red is prohibited, either as a disliked prohibition or a forbidden prohibition, while red mixed with another color is not disliked. Based on this, are the known shamagh (headscarves) permissible or not?
The students: Permissible.

The Shaykh : Why?

The questioner : Marked.

The Shaykh : Because it is marked, meaning it has other colors in it.
Okay, if the color is pure red and it has white writing on it, whether in Arabic or Latin, does the prohibition cease or not?

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : Yes?

The questioner : … meaning a specific example or not?

The Shaykh : Yes, it exists, meaning it exists now, there are pure red T-shirts and they have writing on the back, sometimes a number, sometimes writing?
The student: ... .

The Shaykh : Yes?

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : Yes?

The questioner : … the writing … .

The Shaykh : Yes, there is nothing wrong with it. If the writing does not contain the names of Allah or anything else, it is fine. We can write on it so it is not lost, meaning this is found during the days of Hajj.

The questioner : It might be a company or something.

The Shaykh : Yes, or a company. Now, some workers write the company name and phone number on it, and we have seen this, instead of me getting tired and asking for the phone number and him getting tired taking it out of his pocket.

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : Yes, there are benefits. The point: Do we say that this writing takes the item out of being pure red?

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : Huh? Or is it said that this is not considered a design or a thing on the garment, so it is like something external to it?

The questioner : The second one.

The Shaykh : Yes?

The questioner : The second … .

The Shaykh : The second is closer, because this is not embroidery or coloring, but rather making it with a contrasting color so that it appears and is clear.

The questioner : It might be … embroidery.

The Shaykh : Yes? No, if it is embroidery, there is no harm, meaning.
The student: … or something like embroidery.

The Shaykh : No, no, that is not what they mean.
The student : No, some of them … .

The Shaykh : Strange, meaning they write writing to beautify the T-shirt, I don’t know.

The questioner : The closest … .
Another questioner : The closest is prohibition.

The Shaykh : Yes, by Allah, the closest is prohibition, that it is said to be prohibited. The closest is that it is prohibited, yes, Khalid?
