The Shaykh : Then he mentioned the hadith of Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him and his father) and the hadith of Samurah regarding the fact that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) encouraged wearing white clothes, and he said: And he said: And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) spoke the truth, for the white garment is better than others. This is not because of its brightness and light, nor because when it gets the slightest bit dirty, the dirt shows on it and the person rushes to wash it, whereas with other clothes, dirt may accumulate in them and the person does not notice it, nor does he wash it, and it does not become clean. Therefore, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Jami` at-Tirmidhi 994Hasan (Darussalam) This includes wearing white clothes, shirts, jackets, and trousers; all of them should be white, as that is better. However, if he wears a color other than white, there is no harm, provided that it is not a color whose wearing is specific to women. If it is a color whose wearing is specific to women, then it is not permissible for a man to wear it, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) cursed men who imitate women. Also, provided that it is not red, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prohibited red if it is pure red. If it is red but contains white, there is no harm. Based on this, the third hadith mentioned by the author is understood, which states that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was of medium height and that he was wearing a red garment. This red garment does not mean that it was entirely red, but rather that its patterns were red, just as we say a shemagh is red, but it is not pure red; rather, it has a lot of white, but its dots and patterns are red. Similarly, the red garment means that its patterns are red. As for a man wearing pure red with no white in it, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prohibited that. And success is from Allah.
