The questioner : What is the ruling on using small hairpins or clips that are placed on the crown of the head to hold the hair? Do they prevent water from reaching the hair, or does it require removing them with every ablution, even though doing so involves some difficulty?
The Shaykh : This question actually contains two answers:
First: Gathering the hair on the head so that it forms a hump is religiously blameworthy. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sahih Muslim 2128 meaning unjustly and oppressively Sahih Muslim 2128 Therefore, it is not permissible to tie the hair above the crown, whether with hairpins or otherwise. This is the answer to one aspect of what the question implies.
From another aspect: If it is assumed that this gathering is from the back, which is known among women as a bun, then it does no harm. This is because wiping does not require water to reach the skin of the head; rather, it is sufficient to wipe the surface of the hair, whether it is gathered or left in its natural state.
The questioner : May Allah reward you with good.

Their heads would be like the humps of the bukht camel inclined to one side. They will not enter Paradise and they would not smell its odour whereas its odour would be smelt from such and such distance.
