The Shaykh : Then Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Mu'minun 23:57] They are fearful, a subject and a predicate, meaning from the intensity of their fear of Allah, the fear based on knowledge, fearful of the punishment of Allah, afraid of it, and that is because of their faith, the complete faith that what Allah has promised or threatened will happen, so they are fearful of the awe of Allah, and the min here is for causation, meaning for the sake of the awe, afraid of the punishment of Allah, and awe is fear with knowledge, fear with knowledge, and fear without knowledge is mere fear, so this is the difference between fear and awe. Another difference: that awe is from the greatness of the one feared, even if the one who feels awe is also great, and fear is from the weakness of the one who fears, even if the one feared is weak. He said: [Al-Mu'minun 23:58] They believe, and He used the verb “they believe” because these verses are renewed, so those in the time of the revelation of the Qur'an, the verses were revealed to them day by day, and whenever a verse was revealed, their faith increased. [At-Tawbah 9:124] And likewise the cosmic signs are renewed, so whenever a sign comes that matches what Allah and His Messenger informed about, it increases the believer's faith. For this reason, He said: [Al-Mu'minun 23:58] and He did not say “believers” as He said “fearful,” because faith is repeated, and whenever a verse comes to them, it increases their faith. [Al-Mu'minun 23:59] They do not associate partners, He used the verbal sentence, and did not say “other than associating partners,” and that is because they do not associate partners in any action they do for Allah, so there is no showing off with them, no seeking reputation, and they do not want the world with their deeds, rather they want Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He). [Al-Mu'minun 23:60] meaning fearful, fearful of what? Fearful that it will not be accepted from them, that the deed will be returned to them, not out of bad opinion of Allah, but out of contempt for themselves, and fear of falling short, so they give what they give and do the righteous deed, but they fear that it will not be accepted from them, they fast and fear that it will not be accepted, and so with the rest of the deeds, and their hearts are anxious. Meaning they give what they give because they believe in their return to Allah, and that Allah the Exalted will reward them. Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Mu'minun 23:61] They hasten in them, meaning in reaching them, and in perfecting them, and they are aware of them, they are foremost in them. [Al-Mu'minun 23:62] Since hastening, a mistaken person might think that if they are unable to hasten, they will not attain it, so He said: [Al-Mu'minun 23:62] So they hasten, but if a person among them prays sitting due to his inability to stand, he is hastening, because Allah said: [Al-Mu'minun 23:62] [Al-Mu'minun 23:62], and this book is what the angels wrote of the deeds of the children of Adam, it speaks the truth on the Day of Resurrection, and it is said to the person: [Al-Isra 17:14] Al-Hasan said: “He has been just to you who made you an accountant for yourself” You are the one who accounts for yourself, you do not seek an accountant, and you will find that the matter is as it was written. [Al-Mu'minun 23:63] This is like His saying at the beginning of the verse: [Al-Mu'minun 23:55-56] Nay, they are not aware, here He said: [Al-Mu'minun 23:63] Meaning what has befallen them has overwhelmed them, and they do not perceive it, and they have deeds other than that, they are workers for it, what are these deeds? The deeds of the world, for this reason He said: indicating the lowliness of their rank, then He said: [Al-Mu'minun 23:63] The sentence, as you know, is nominal, meaning they are perfect in the work for it, and the object for it “workers for it” was placed first to indicate that they have confined themselves, their thoughts, and their minds to these worldly deeds.
The reader: Ibn 'Uyaynah said: “They have not done them: they must do them”
The Shaykh : Yes, meaning they have not done them yet, but they must do them, meaning they are determined to work on doing them.
Indeed, they who are apprehensive from fear of their Lord
إن الذين هم من خشية ربهم مشفقونAnd they who believe in the signs of their Lord
والذين هم بآيات ربهم يؤمنونAnd whenever a surah is revealed, there are among the hypocrites those who say, "Which of you has this increased faith?" As for those who believed, it has increased them in faith, while they are rejoicing.
وإذا ما أنزلت سورة فمنهم من يقول أيكم زادته هذه إيمانا فأما الذين آمنوا فزادتهم إيمان وهم يستبشرونAnd they who believe in the signs of their Lord
