The benefits of the saying of Allah the Exalted: “Indeed, this is the great success. For such a thing, let the workers work.”

Then He said: [As-Saffat 37:60-61] This verse and the one following it indicate that success is a reality and that reaching the abode of the honor of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) is the goal. It follows from this benefit that no matter how much a person succeeds in this world, his success is nothing compared to the success of the Hereafter. For He said, “Indeed, this is the great success.” Is there a parallel to this in the Qur'an? There are many, such as His saying: [Ali 'Imran 3:185] Thus, success is not achieved by acquiring wealth, nor by acquiring status, nor by acquiring authority, nor by acquiring children, nor by acquiring wives. True success is reaching the abode of eternal bliss. I ask Allah to make me and you among those who reach it. [As-Saffat 37:60]
Among the benefits of the noble verse that follows is that what the worker should work for, the toiler should toil for, and the one who labors should labor for is this bliss, as He said: Do not work or exhaust yourself in a matter that does not benefit you in the Hereafter. This does not mean that we should say, “Do not work for this world.” Work for this world, but make your work in this world from the deeds of the Hereafter. How is this possible? It is possible if you seek wealth in order to be chaste and avoid asking people for help, if you seek it in order to spend on your family, if you seek it in order to give it in charity, if you seek it in order to use it to assist in seeking knowledge, or to use it to assist in jihad in the path of Allah. In that case, seeking this world becomes seeking the Hereafter, and this work becomes work for reaching Paradise.
Among the benefits of the noble verse is the refutation of those people who work for this world to the exclusion of the Hereafter, for Allah said: Therefore, those who work for this world while being heedless of the Hereafter are undoubtedly foolish, and they have spent their lives in something that is not beneficial, but rather in loss. And Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Mu'minun 23:63] Glory be to Allah! He describes the disbelievers by saying that their hearts are in a delusion, meaning submerged. He used the preposition “in” which indicates a state of being within, to indicate that the delusion, may Allah protect us from it, has surrounded these hearts. They are in a delusion regarding this, but their deeds are for what is beneath that. [Al-Mu'minun 23:63] They do not work for anything other than that, and they are from those who are beneath that. He used “from” which indicates distance, and “beneath” which indicates being below that for which man was created. These are people whose hearts are in a delusion regarding what Allah has promised the people of Paradise and threatened the people of the Fire with, but they work for the deeds of this world, which are far below that in many stages. This is like His saying in rebuking those who will be punished on the Day of Resurrection:
[Qaf 50:22] “In this world, you were in heedlessness,” meaning heedlessness of the Day of Resurrection, as if this day would not come. But today, the veil has been removed from you, and your sight is sharp and strong; you see things as they truly are. But in this world, you did not. Here, Allah commanded us to work for this: As for what is beneath this, a person of sound mind should not spend his life and exhaust his body and mind working for it.
(60) Indeed, this is the great attainment. (61) For the like of this let the workers [on earth] work.
