The questioner : How to reconcile the aforementioned hadith with the hadith:
I am to my slave as he thinks of Me أنا عند ظن عبدي بي
Sahih al-Bukhari 7505
because this man thought that Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) would not forgive him, and yet Allah forgave him?

The Shaykh : Yes, there is a difference between them. This one thought that Allah would not forgive him because he accused himself of a sin, whereas the other thought that Allah would not forgive him because he thought ill of Allah.
