The Shaykh : As for the hadith he mentioned, he said: There was a she-camel belonging to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) called al-'Adhwa, and it was never overtaken. Then a Bedouin man came on his mount, a large mount, and overtook it. This was distressing for the Muslims, because the Prophet's she-camel had been overtaken, and it was a she-camel, yes. They said, "Al-'Adhwa has been overtaken," expressing disapproval of this matter. The Messenger of Allah, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), said: "It is a right upon Allah that He does not raise anything of this world except that He will lower it." Yes, of this world, except that He will lower it. As for what is of the religion, if Allah raises it, it has no lowliness. But if a person leans toward this world, then he is lowered. Allah the Exalted said: "And recite to them the news of the one to whom We gave Our signs, but he slipped away from them, and Satan pursued him, so he became one of the astray. And if We had willed, We would have raised him thereby, but he clung to the earth." I seek refuge in Allah. His concern became this world; he clung to the earth and followed his desires, so Allah did not raise him. His example is like that of a dog: whether you drive it away, it pants, or you leave it, it pants.
