The Reciter: Chapter: Allah will grasp the earth on the Day of Resurrection. Narrated by Nafi', from Ibn 'Umar, from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
The Shaykh : This chapter is indicated by Allah in His saying:[Al-An'am 6:91] meaning that they did not magnify Him with the true magnification, and the entire earth is in His grasp. The phrase "the entire earth" here is a circumstantial phrase, though it is possible that it is a new sentence, to clarify the greatness of Allah (Mighty and Majestic). If it is a circumstantial phrase, the implied meaning is: "And they did not estimate Allah with His true estimation, while the entire earth is in His grasp." It is known that this state is not concurrent, because their estimation of Allah with His true estimation is in this world, whereas the entire earth being in His grasp is on the Day of Resurrection, which is in the Hereafter, so it would be an anticipated state. If it is a new sentence, the meaning is: "And they did not estimate Allah with His true estimation, and Allah will grasp the earth on the Day of Resurrection." Yes, the earth, and Allah will grasp the earth on the Day of Resurrection. "His grasp" clearly refers to the grasp of the hand, contrary to those who deny this and say that the meaning of "His grasp" is that it is under His control and within His command, as one says: "The money is in so-and-so's grasp." There is no doubt that this is a distortion, contrary to the texts, and the analogy is incorrect, because there is a difference between saying "the earth is His grasp" and "the money is in his grasp." If "in" is used, the meaning is that it is under his control, but if one says "his grasp," it means that it is the grasp itself, the thing being grasped. So the entire earth is the grasp of Allah on the Day of Resurrection. This has been explicitly stated in the hadith of Ibn Mas'ud and others. As for the heavens being folded with His right hand, yes, the heavens, despite their greatness, vastness, and size, are folded with the right hand of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), meaning with His hand, and both His hands are right hands. As for the claim that the meaning of "right hand" is power, as in His saying: [As-Saffat 37:28], that is a distortion. For Allah says: [Al-Anbya 21:104] Just as a scroll is folded, the scroll containing the covenants, which we now call deeds, is folded. Allah will fold the heavens and the earth on the Day of Resurrection like the folding of a scroll for books. It is easy. When a person folds a piece of paper, is it easy for him or not?
The Reciter: Easy
The Shaykh : Easy, it is nothing, but Allah's folding of the heavens is much, much easier, like the folding of a scroll for books. As We began the first creation, We will repeat it.
The Shaykh : This chapter is indicated by Allah in His saying:
And they did not appraise Allah with true appraisal
وما قدروا الله حق قدرهIndeed, you used to come at us from the right."
إنكم كنتم تأتوننا عن اليمينThe Day when We will fold the heaven like the folding of a [written] sheet for the records
يوم نطوي السماء كطي السجل للكتبThe Reciter: Easy
