The questioner : Some scholars say that the meaning of the statement of Allah the Exalted:
So if you are in doubt, [O Muhammad], about that which We have revealed to you فإن كنت في شك مما أنزلنا إليك
[Yunus 10:94]
is that the intended meaning is not the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), but rather the intended meaning is the Ummah, because doubt does not occur from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Is this correct?

The Shaykh : In any case, the address is directed to the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). It can be said that if this is addressed to the Messenger, then who could possibly doubt? Yes.

The questioner : All the more so.

The Shaykh : All the more so, all the more so. Indeed, this—whether it indicates the occurrence of something or not—may occur in the case of the impossible. The impossible:
Say, [O Muhammad], "If the Most Merciful had a son, then I would be the first of [his] worshippers." قل إن كان للرحمن ولد فأنا أول العابدين
[Az-Zukhruf 43:81]
Is this possible?
If you associate partners with Allah لئن أشركت
And it was already revealed to you and to those before you that if you should associate [anything] with Allah, your work would surely become worthless ولقد أوحي إليك وإلى الذين من قبلك لئن أشركت ليحبطن عملك
[Az-Zumar 39:65]
It is not necessary that the existence of the condition, or the occurrence of something in a conditional sentence, implies that its occurrence is permissible.
