Explanation of the Book of the Hearts-10a

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Al-A'mash said: "Amr narrated to me from Khaythamah from 'Adi ibn Hatim (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Fear the Fire اتقوا النار
Then he turned away and gestured, and then he said:
Fear the Fire اتقوا النار
Then he turned away and gestured, three times, until we thought he was looking at it. Then he said:
Protect yourselves against Fire even if it is with half a date, and he who does not find it, (he should do so) with pleasant words. اتقوا النار ولو بشق تمرة فمن لم يجد فبكلمة طيبة
Sahih Muslim 1016c

The Shaykh : This is like the first one in that it involves a reckoning, that Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) speaks to the person without an interpreter; there is no translator between Him and him. And it is as if I see you saying, "In what language does He speak to him?" as is the habit of some people. So if we were asked, "In what language?" we would say to them: "What sufficed the Companions suffices you." For the Companions did not ask in what language. But there is no doubt that He will speak to him in words he understands. For this reason, he said: "There is no translator between Him and him."
The reader: "A translator."

The Shaykh : A translator. So he looks and says, "He looks but sees nothing before him. Then he looks in front of him and the Fire faces him," meaning he sees it in front of his face. And he looks, and it is mentioned in another hadith, to his right and left, and he sees nothing but what he has brought. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
So, whoever among you can save himself from the Fire, should do so even with one half of a date (to give in charity). فمن استطاع منكم أن يتقي النار ولو بشق تمرة
Sahih al-Bukhari 6539
Meaning, let him do it. And "half a date" means half of it.
