Explanation of the words of Imam al-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him) regarding what he quoted: "

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
This hadith explains some of the means of good, for the means of good are many, praise be to Allah. Allah legislated them for His servants so that they may reach the ultimate objectives through them. Among these is charity, for charity, as is authentic from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
extinguishes bad deeds just as water extinguishes fire
Sunan Ibn Majah 4210Da’if (Darussalam)
Then the author mentioned this hadith, in which he explained that Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) will speak to every person, speaking to each person individually on the Day of Resurrection. Allah the Exalted said:
O mankind, indeed you are laboring toward your Lord with [great] exertion and will meet it.
[Al-Inshiqaq 84:6]
meaning: so you will meet your Lord and He will hold you accountable for this striving, that is, the toil and effort you have done. But there is good news for the believers. Allah the Exalted said:
And fear Allah and know that you will meet Him. And give good tidings to the believers.
[Al-Baqarah 2:223]
Praise be to Allah, when a believer meets his Lord, he is in a state of well-being. For this reason, he said here in the hadith that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
There will be none among you but his Lord will speak to him, and there will be no interpreter between them
Sahih al-Bukhari 7443
meaning: Allah will speak to him on the Day of Resurrection without an interpreter. Allah (Mighty and Majestic) will speak to every believing servant, and He will confirm his sins for him, saying:
You did such and such, and you did such and such on such and such a day. So when he acknowledges them and thinks that he has perished, He says: I have concealed it from you in this world, and I am forgiving it for you today
I have concealed it from you in this world, and I am forgiving it for you today. How many sins are upon us that Allah (Mighty and Majestic) has concealed, and He alone knows them. So when the Day of Resurrection comes, He will complete the favor upon us by forgiving them and not punishing us for them, praise be to Allah. Then he said:
He will look to his right
meaning: to his right
and would not find anything but (the deeds) which he had done before, and he would see towards the left and would not find anything but (the deeds) which he had done before. He would see in front of him and would find nothing but Fire just before his face
Sahih Muslim 1016b
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
So protect (yourselves) against Fire even if it is with the help of half a date.
Sahih Muslim 1016b
Fear the Fire with this. So in this hadith is evidence of the speech of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), and that He (Glorified and Exalted is He) speaks with a heard and understood speech that does not require translation, which the one addressed understands. And in it is evidence that charity, even if it is little, saves from the Fire, based on His saying:
Protect yourselves from the Fire, even with half a date.
Sunan an-Nasa'i 2552Sahih (Darussalam)
He said:
then (you can do it through saying) a good pleasant word (to your brethren)
Sahih al-Bukhari 1413
The good word includes reciting the Qur'an, for the sweetest of words is the Noble Qur'an. It includes tasbih and tahlil, as well as enjoining good and forbidding evil. It includes teaching knowledge and learning knowledge. It also includes everything by which a person draws near to his Lord through speech. Meaning, if you do not find half a date, then you fear the Fire even with a good word. So this is one of the means of good, praise be to Allah, that half a date saves from the Fire, and that a good word saves from the Fire. We ask Allah to save us and you from the Fire.
