The Shaykh : And for this reason, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Abu Dharr:
Don't consider anything insignificant out of good things even if it is that you meet your brother with a cheerful countenance. لا تحقرن من المعروف شيئا، ولو أن تلقى أخاك بوجه طلق
Sahih Muslim 2626
: This is an act of kindness because it brings joy to his brother and opens his chest. Then, if he combines that with a good word, there are thereby two benefits: a cheerful face and the good word about which he (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said:
Protect yourselves from the Fire, even with half a date. اتّقوا النار ولو بشقّ تمرة
Sunan an-Nasa'i 2552Sahih (Darussalam)

then (you can do it through saying) a good pleasant word (to your brethren) فإن لم يجد فبكلمة طيّبة
Sahih al-Bukhari 1413
: A good word is like saying to him, "How are you? How is your condition? How are your brothers? How is your family?" and the like, because these are among the good words that bring joy to their owner. Every good word is charity for you with Allah, and a reward and recompense, and it is counted among their good morals. And the Prophet (may Allah's prayer and peace be upon him) said:
Kindness is good character, and he said: The most complete of the believers in faith are the best of them in character. البرّ حسن الخلق، وقال: أكمل المؤمنين إيمانا أحاسنهم خلقا
, and success is from Allah.
