Explanation of the Book of Inheritance, Fixed Punishments, and Blood Money-10b

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Ahmad ibn Ya'qub narrated to us, Ishaq ibn Sa'id narrated to us, I heard my father narrate, from 'Abd Allah ibn 'Umar, who said:
One of the evil deeds with bad consequence from which there is no escape for the one who is involved in it is to kill someone unlawfully. إن من ورطات الأمور التي لا مخرج لمن أوقع نفسه فيها سفك الدم الحرام بغير حله
Sahih al-Bukhari 6863

The Shaykh : May Allah be our helper. The statement of Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him): "there is no way out for one who has fallen into them" is not to be taken in its absolute generality. The correct view is that there is a way out, and that is through repentance and fulfilling what is required of him in terms of retaliation or blood money. This is the way out. Therefore, the statement of Ibn 'Umar here is either because he does not consider the repentance of the killer to be accepted, or it is from the category of warning. In the category of warning, it is permissible to use absolute expressions without qualification, and the qualification is known from other texts. This is because in the category of warning, one should bring forth the strongest warnings possible so that people are deterred from it. Accordingly, some absolute texts of threat have come, which appear to contradict other texts indicating that a believer will not remain in the Fire forever, for the sake of warning. Thus, in the category of warning, it is permissible to state threats absolutely, and their qualification is derived from other texts. In any case, we say that the statement of Ibn 'Umar is either from those who do not accept the repentance of the killer, which is the weaker opinion, or it is from the category of warning, and in the category of warning, there is no harm in a person using absolute expressions.
