Explanation of the Book of Fitnahs and Rulings-01b

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Muhammad narrated to us, 'Abd al-Razzaq narrated to us from Ma'mar from Hammam, who heard Abu Hurayrah from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
None of you should point out towards his Muslim brother with a weapon, for he does not know, Satan may tempt him to hit him and thus he would fall into a pit of fire (Hell) لا يشير أحدكم على أخيه بالسلاح فإنه لا يدري لعل الشيطان ينزع في يده فيقع في حفرة من النار
Sahih al-Bukhari 7072
.

The Shaykh : This hadith is clear in that it is not permissible for a person to point a weapon at anyone, whether it is an arrow, a rifle, or something similar, because he does not know; perhaps Satan will prick his hand or cause it to slip, and this instrument he pointed with will fly from his hand and hit the other person, killing him. This is very common with rifles; often a person takes a rifle and points it at his brother in jest, and it goes off and kills him. The same applies to a knife; you point it at him, even in jest, saying, "I am going to hit you," and Satan causes it to fly from your hand, and you fall into a pit of the Fire. This prohibition is for the sake of prohibition, so it is not permissible for a person to point a weapon at his brother, whether in earnest or in jest.
