What is the meaning of Allah the Exalted’s saying in the Qudsi Hadith

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : The question, O honorable Shaykh, regarding Allah’s saying:
If anyone does anything in which he associates anyone else with Me, I shall abandon him with one whom he associates with Allah.من أشرك معي غيري تركته وشركَه
Sahih Muslim 2985
Is there a specific time for this abandonment, or is it when the one who associated partners repents, or when Allah takes his soul?

The Shaykh : Yes, Allah’s saying in the Qudsi Hadith:
I leave him and his association تركتُه وشركَه
means: the very deed in which the association occurred is not accepted by Allah, but if he repents from it, then Allah accepts his repentance, because Allah said:
(68) And those who do not invoke with Allah another deity or kill the soul which Allah has forbidden [to be killed], except by right, and do not commit unlawful sexual intercourse. And whoever should do that will meet a penalty. (69) Multiplied for him is the punishment on the Day of Resurrection, and he will abide therein humiliated - وَالَّذِينَ لا يَدْعُونَ مَعَ اللَّهِ إِلَهاً آخَرَ وَلا يَقْتُلُونَ النَّفْسَ الَّتِي حَرَّمَ اللَّهُ إِلَّا بِالْحَقِّ وَلا يَزْنُونَ وَمَنْ يَفْعَلْ ذَلِكَ يَلْقَ أَثَاماً * يُضَاعَفْ لَهُ الْعَذَابُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ وَيَخْلُدْ فِيهِ مُهَاناً
[Al-Furqan 25:68-69]
.
So the meaning of His saying:
I leave him and his association تركتُه وشركَه
is not that I have abandoned him forever, but rather that I have abandoned him and his association in the specific deed in which he associated partners. Then, if he repents from it, believes, and does a righteous deed, Allah replaces his bad deeds with good ones.

The questioner : In the name of Allah.
Honorable Shaykh, a person is asking and saying: He got to know one of the Christians through one of his friends, and he did not know that he was a Christian, so he treated him as a Muslim treats his Muslim brother. After a period of time, it became clear that he was a Christian, to the extent that in some of the gatherings with him while eating and hosting him in the house.

The Shaykh : What?

The questioner : and hosting him in the house.

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : He learned that he was a Christian, and this man was distressed by the severity of the matter when he learned that he was a Christian, while he had not known.
