And if the mu'adhdhin calls the adhan for Fajr while I am in the qunut of witr, have I caught the witr?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : This is regarding the first question. What is the second question?

The questioner : If he called the adhan?

The Shaykh : If he called the adhan and you are in the witr, complete the witr, and you will have caught it. First: because of the saying of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him):
Whoever catches a raka of the prayer has caught the prayer. من أدرك ركعة من الصلاة فقد أدرك الصلاة
Muwatta Malik 1:15
.
Second: most mu'adhdhins for Fajr call the adhan before the time, because it has been established for us through precise calculation by some of the brothers who are knowledgeable in astronomy that the current calendar is five minutes ahead of the actual time. This means that a person is free to delay until five minutes after the time indicated by the current calendar. This applies only to Fajr; for the other times, they have not shown us any discrepancy.
However, some of the brothers exaggerate regarding the issue of Fajr, saying that Fajr does not end until a third or a quarter of an hour after the indicated time. But it appears that there is some exaggeration in this; it is only five minutes. Brothers who have knowledge of astronomy have told us that five minutes of advancement is confirmed. Therefore, you should not rush the two rak'ahs of Fajr if you know that he calls the adhan according to the calendar.

The questioner : Your statement: "It suffices for him." What does "it suffices" mean?

The Shaykh : If he said: "It suffices for the greeting of the mosque," it means he is not required to perform it, because the intention is to pray two rak'ahs upon entering the mosque, and that has already been done.

The questioner : Yes.
