The remainder of the answer: His father’s behavior toward his mother changed after he married another woman, and it was established by evidence that he was bewitched. How is this problem resolved?

The Shaykh : This is a severe warning, may Allah protect us from it, on the Day of Resurrection, with all the people present as witnesses to his punishment. This is a very great matter. Therefore, inclining toward one of the women, meaning one of the wives, is among the major sins, except for something one does not control, such as affection and what arises from it. A person cannot control this, and for this reason Allah the Exalted said:
And you will never be able to be equal [in feeling] between wives, even if you should strive [to do so]. So do not incline completely [toward one] and leave another hanging
[An-Nisa 4:129]
.
As for what he mentioned about the possibility that it might be sorcery, unfortunately, the issue of sorcery, the issue of the evil eye, and the issue of the jinn have spread among many people today. This is a mistake, because if a person feels this feeling, his soul becomes agitated and weak, Satan takes hold of him, and all his thoughts revolve around this thing until the imagination becomes reality. But if a person relies upon Allah (Mighty and Majestic) and places his trust in Allah with true trust, and becomes strong through Allah, then this does not concern him. He turns away from all of this and believes that these things happen to people. A tightness in the chest may happen to a person, suppression may happen to a person, and many things may happen to a person, to the extent that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Indeed, something comes over my heart, and I seek forgiveness from Allah seventy times a day, or more than seventy times. إنه ليغان على قلبي وإني لأستغفر الله في اليوم سبعين مرة، -أو- أكثر من سبعين مرة
. Therefore, my advice to my brothers is not to follow these illusions and imaginations.
We do not deny that the jinn may afflict a person, as Allah the Exalted said:
except as one stands who is being beaten by Satan into insanity إِلَّا كَمَا يَقُومُ الَّذِي يَتَخَبَّطُهُ الشَّيْطَانُ مِنَ الْمَسِّ
[Al-Baqarah 2:275]
, and this is regarding those who are possessed. And the Sunnah has come with this as well. But it does not mean that everything that befalls us, even if some people catch a cold, is a jinni that has possessed them. This is a mistake. It is obligatory for a person to have strength and trust in Allah, and then to use the supplications reported from the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), such as reciting Ayat al-Kursi at night, and reciting Surat al-Baqarah in the house, and the like. It is obligatory for a person to have strength and trust in Allah (Mighty and Majestic), and to seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Satan whenever he feels such things until they are removed from him. Likewise, regarding the evil eye, we do not deny that the evil eye has an effect, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The evil eye is a reality, and if anything had preceded the decree, the evil eye would have preceded it. العينُ حق، ولو سبق القدر شيء لسبقته العين
. But not everything that befalls a person is the evil eye. However, if a person imagines something, it may become reality with much imagination and conjecture. For this reason, we advise our Muslim brothers to have complete reliance upon Allah (Mighty and Majestic) and trust in Him until these illusions are removed from them.
Consequently, I advise this man whom the questioner spoke about to fear Allah (Mighty and Majestic), and to try as much as he can to be just between his two wives, and to return to his children with tenderness, compassion, discipline, and guidance, and not to distance himself from them, because they are his children, a part of him. And success is from Allah.

The questioner : Do you advise him to seek treatment, O Shaykh?

The Shaykh : Yes?

The questioner : Do you advise him to seek treatment and medical care?

The Shaykh : By Allah, regarding treatment and medical care, I am afraid that if I say: I advise him to seek treatment and medical care, it means that I have confirmed his conjecture. I do not know; it may not be sorcery.

The questioner : His sorcery has been established with certainty.

The Shaykh : If it is established that he is bewitched, let him seek treatment. He should be treated with recitations and dhikr, and go to people of goodness known for their good recitation.

The questioner : But he refuses, O Shaykh.

The Shaykh : If he refuses, the sin is upon him if he knows. Yes, there is a question they gave you on a paper.
The student : Yes, O Shaykh.
