If a person who has performed wudu' wipes over his leather socks for the first time as a renewal without having broken his state of ritual purity, does the time period begin from this wiping or from what comes after it?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Yes, please go ahead.

The questioner : May Allah preserve you, O Shaykh. If a person performs wudu' for the Fajr prayer and then puts on his leather socks, and when the time for the Zuhr prayer arrives he is still in a state of ritual purity and wants to renew his purity, does this wiping count toward the time period or not, given that it was a renewal of purity?

The Shaykh : I mean, you are asking: if he wipes for the first time as a renewal, does the time period begin from this wiping or from what comes after?
The scholars say that the time period does not begin except from the wiping after breaking the state of ritual purity. Accordingly, the time period is not calculated from a wiping done for renewal. In the example you mentioned, if he renewed his wudu' for the Zuhr prayer without having broken his state of ritual purity and wiped over his socks, the time period does not begin. If he then breaks his state of ritual purity at the time of the 'Asr prayer and performs wudu', the time period begins from that time.
