What is the ruling on organizing da'wah programs in summer camps and charitable offices?
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : May the peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you.
The Shaykh : And upon you be peace and Allah's mercy and blessings.
The questioner : What is the ruling on organizing da'wah programs in summer camps and charitable offices?
The Shaykh : Organizing them?
The questioner : Yes.
The Shaykh : There is nothing wrong with this. There is nothing wrong with organizing groups for the da'wah to Allah the Exalted at any time and in any season. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to organize his Companions in war, arranging and ordering them, saying, "You have the banner, this one has the standard, this one is on the right flank, this one is on the left flank, and this one is in the center," meaning in the middle of the army.
This is how the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) did it. Likewise, the scholars said that in jihad, it is recommended to arrange the army, place each person in his proper position, and appoint overseers for each group to convey the people's needs and what is lacking to the general commander. Thus, organization is a matter established by the Shari'ah, but it is general. By "general," it means it is subject to what public benefit requires in every time and place. Our organization here in this country may be appropriate and beneficial, but in another country it may not be appropriate or beneficial, and they have their own systems. Any system that achieves public benefit and is not forbidden by the Shari'ah is among the matters for which the Sunnah provides a precedent.
